 Cinema has a very notable importance on our lives and the way we behave, it influences our culture, attitudes and behaviour. Movies happen to be the most influential tool of communication and society happens to learn a lot of things from films. Nowadays, movies are also launched on ott platforms like netflix and prime along with theatres since covid 19 which also allows the viewers to watch several movies at a very affordable rates and at the comfort of their home. When we see certain incidences shown in movies that we can relate to we naturally let them influence our mind-set and thought process. We want our personality and life to be just like the life of the movie character we idealize. Movies can have a positive as well as negative impact. Cinema is one of a great stress relief and makes the audience feel better and relax. Watching movies together along with our dear ones bonds us together and makes memories. Cinema is a significant industry that creates jobs and generates revenue. It contributes to the local economy by attracting tourists, creating employment opportunities, and supporting related industries such as hospitality and retail.

Cinema often portrays violence. Exposure to violent films has been linked to increased aggression and violent behavior. A famous example is Kabir Singh where the male lead has been seen fighting with people and showing aggressive behaviour along toxic masculinity.  

Cinema especially bollywood tends to create unrealistic expectations in relationships and life in general. This leads to have a unrealistic mindset and perspective of people towards life. Movies like dilwale dulhaniya le jayenge, kabhi khushi kabhi gam etc makes people build a unreal approach towards love and relationships.

Bollywood movies also tend to sexualize bodies of male and female actors till a greater and concerning limit. Movies like main tera hero showcases bodies and visuals till a concerning extent. This leads to insecurity among teenagers regarding their looks and body. It can lead to various psychological issues as well like eating disorder and body dsymorphia. It tends to create this urge of constantly look good but at the same time movies like dum lagake haisha and double xl also shares body positivity.

Movies like padman and toilet ek prem katha are wonderful movies sharing social and realistic issues of this country.       

Overall, cinema has had a significant impact on society in various ways, from entertainment and education to cultural and social influence. It is important for people to remember that movies are only a form of entertainment and that what we watch online isn’t to be recreated.
