How cinema can be used as a medium of raising social awareness - Samuel D'souza (210)
Cinema is the best tool to
spread social awareness in the modern society, either it being political,
social or economic and giving us the latest insight about what is happening in
our world, making us aware about our rights, creating social awareness against
the evils in our society, what new things that are happening around us and
exposing the corrupt politicians. Cinema films can give viewers a different
view of society than their used to, broadening their horizons and making them
think about problems in a new way.Cinema is a reflection of our society which
reflects on our past, present and future. It is a powerful vehicle for
education, publicity and culture.Movies are considered to be one of the most
popular medium of mass communication in the world which is equally effective in
every part of society. It is reachable to all parts of society such as people of
small villages, towns and big cities in every language.Movies had a big number
of audience, so it can easily spread social awareness among people about human
rights, pollution, education and many more.
According to a survey 54.5%
people like to watch cinema sometimes while 36.4% of people watch it very often,
where we only 9.1% watch it rarely. This means everyone likes to watch cinema.
There is no one who isn’t affected by cinema so it is a very effective medium.
Some of the movies which are
related to social awareness are “mother India” in 1957 on women’s
condition. “Jai ho” in 2014 on helping others in need. “Jai
Bharat” on communal peace in 1939.”Nayak” in 2001 talks about The
corruption In India. So in conclusion movies can open the eyes to
what’s out there for us and shows us what problems are happening constantly in
the world around us.
